James Nalley, 92, Is Buried Today
James Nalley, 92-year-old Central City retired coal miner, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in McLean County Feb. 28, 1876 and was a member of the Central City First Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.He was married 68 years before his wife died last year. They lived on Morehead Street.
Survivors include a son, Joe Nalley of Greenville; four daughters, Mrs. Lucy Baxter and Mrs. Gladys Morris of Central City, Mrs. Nell Jernigan of Chicago and Mrs. Ethel Hunter of Owensboro; sister, Mrs. Betty Tipton of Evansville; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. in Central City with the Rev. W.R. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers.

Greenville - Mrs. Artie Belle Nevels, 72, of Greenville died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1985 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
She was a member of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Greenville, serving on Stewardess Board No. 1 and as an usher.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Retha Lee Singletary of Greenville, Mrs. Willie May Turney of Murfreesboro, TN and Mrs. Clara E. Wood of Sewanee, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial
was in West End Cemetery, under the direction of Bibb Funeral Home.

Greenville - Floyd Nevels, Negro, died at the Muhlenberg county community hospital July 11, 1956. Funeral services were held at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church July 14. The Rev. J.H. Dunlap delivered the eulogy, assisted by the Rev. M.A. Dykes, pastor, Ebenezer Baptist church, Depoy.

Mrs. Annie E. Newman, 74, Dies Tuesday Morning
Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Newman, 74, died at her home Tuesday at 4:30 a.m. Funeral service was held Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Church at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Fox officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alvis Lee. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Guy Lovell, Frank Jackson, Gordon Lucas, Ora Bandy, Edwin Jenkins and Eura Horn.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis G. Newman; three daughters, Mrs. John Corley, R3, Greenville, Mrs. Melvin Shutt, Evansville, and Mrs. Paul Stodghill, Earlington; seven sons, T.R. Newman, Austin Newman, Greenville, Orvil Newman of Beech Creek, Moody Newman, R1, Drakesboro; Hoyt Newman, R2, Greenville, L.D. Newman, R3, Greenville; J.O. Mack Newman's Sister Dies
Greenville - Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Newman of Paducah, Mrs. Naomi Moore and daughter Barbara of Flint, Mich. came for the funeral and burial of Miss Eva Newman, who died at her home in Paducah. She was brought back to Lewisburg. They all came to Greenville to visit Mrs. Mack Newman. Miss Eva Newman was the sister of the late Mack Newman, former editor and publisher of the Greenville Leader.

Central City - Anna Francis Noffsinger, 82, of Central City died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born May 1, 1926, in Muhlenberg County to the late Frank James McCoy and Sallie Eva Fentress McCoy. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Halbert Nodell Noffsinger, in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Lloyd Noffsinger and wife Brenda of Las Vegas; three daughters, Martha Thomas of San Jose, Calif.; Brenda Gossett and husband Pete of Central City, and Laura Jones and husband Roger of Central City; eight grandchildren, Wayne Noffsinger, Celia Breazile, Jay Thomas, Jennifer Renfrow, J.P. Mrs. Effie Noffsinger, 80, died in Muhlenberg Community Hospital Tuesday, March 19, at 2:45 p.m. She was born in Odin, Ill. July 8, 1887, and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, John T. Noffsinger Jr. and Robert L. Noffsinger, both of Evansville; four daughters, Miss Lorene Noffsinger of Detroit, Mrs. P.A. Shaver Jr. of Central City, Mrs. Forest Guinn of Owensboro, Mrs. Jack Slamer of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, O.E. Allen of Louisville. Her brother, Herman Allen of Island, preceded her in death eight days ago.

Cleaton - George R. Noffsinger, 86, died in Muhlenberg Community Hospital Tuesday, March 5, at 10:20 p.m.
Born in Muhlenberg County April 21, 1881, he was a retired farmer and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Veda Cole of Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Georgia Duncan of Central City and Mrs. Barbara Torres of Louisville; two sons, Burness Noffsinger of Round Lake, Ill. and Kenneth Noffsinger of Chicago; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dallas Noffsinger of Herron, Ill.
Services will be today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in Central City with the Rev. Roy Geary, pastor of Cherry Hill Baptist Church, in charge. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery.

Central City - Mr. Halbert Nodell Noffsinger, 66, of Central City, died Sunday, January 14, 1990 at 12:12 p.m. at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Mr. Noffsinger was born in Muhlenberg County on September 4, 1923. He was a retired mail carrier and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: wife, Anna Noffsinger of Central city; one son, Lloyd Noffsinger of Las Vegas, Nevada; three daughters, Martha Thomas of Sunny Vale, California, Brenda Johnson and Laura Jones both of Central City; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Brenice McCandless of Greenville and Carolyn Haack of Spring Lake, Michigan; three brothers, Oscar Noffsinger of Phoenix, Arizona, Wallace Nofsinger and Mendle Nofsinger both of Central City.

Rev. Houston Dood Noffsinger, 76, of Powderly, died Monday, Aug. 10 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
He was born April 29, 1922 in Muhlenberg County, was a retired coal miner and a Baptist minister. He was pastor of Woodson Baptist Church for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Virginia Mae Noffsinger; two sons, Roger Noffsinger of Greenville and Brad Noffsinger of Central City; daughter, Linda Andrews of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lindel Wayne Noffsinger of Hartford and Richard Earl Noffsinger of Bremen; sister, Leatrice Joy Morris of Bremen.

Mr. Noffsinger was a farmer and had lived in the community his entire life. He was a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church.

Magaline Todd Noffsinger, 94, born Sept. 21, 1913, in Graham, Ky., passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Jan. 20, 2008.
“Miss Maggie,” as she was known to her friends, was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, James “J.P.” Noffsinger.
She was raised in Kentucky and owned and operated her own beauty salon before moving to Indiana, when she married her husband, Jim. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Evansville, Ind., where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for more than 20 years. Upon her husband's retirement, they moved to Lakeland, Fla., where they resided for the past 20 years. Miss Maggie was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Lakeland and was very active in church activities until her health worsened several years ago. She maintained her keen wit, sharp sense of humor and limitless “sayings” throughout her life.
She is survived by her son, Neil and his wife, Gail, of Spring, Texas; three grandchildren, Adam Noffsinger of New York City and Stacia and husband, Jason Kinman, and great-grandson, Wyatt Kinman, of Boonville, Ind., Melissa and Nathan Floyd and great-granddaughter, Madison, of Charlotte, North Carolina; as well as nieces and nephews.
The family expresses special thanks to her friends and the staff of Southland Suites of Lakeland, where she resided for the past several years, as well as her longtime friend and caregiver, Betty Waddell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham in Lakeland, Fla. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service. The burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens, 2125 South Bartow Highway.

Mrs. Maude Noffsinger Dies Monday Afternoon
Mrs. Maude Ann Noffsinger, 62, died at the home of her son, John Noffsinger, near Central City, at 3:20 p.m., Monday. She was born in Muhlenberg County and had spent her entire life here. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are her husband, Shelby F. Noffsinger; five sons, Edward Noffsinger of Mayfield; Albert Noffsinger of Sacramento; John Noffsinger of Central City; Charles T. Noffsinger of Bremen; and Ernest Noffsinger of Central City; and five grandchildren.

S.R. Noffsinger, 81, Dies in Oklahoma; Burial in Muhlenberg
Samuel Robert Noffsinger died in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 16, after an illness of a year's duration. He was born in Muhlenberg County May 30, 1853, where he resided for 50 years. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of this county.
The body arrived over the Illinois Central railroad at 3:43 a.m. Tuesday, and was taken to the home of his brother, J.B. Noffsinger, Route 1, this city. Funeral services were held at the Bethel Baptist church at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Bryant Wice [Rice?]. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Robert Noffsinger, Detroit, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Tom Jackson, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, J.B. Noffsinger, Route 1, city, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Crist, this city.

Mrs. Sarah Noffsinger Leaves 145 Descendants
Central City - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth (Aunt Betty) Noffsinger, 91, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, May 28th at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Holland in Powderly, leaving 145 descendants. Mrs. Noffsinger was born in Muhlenberg County, January 7, 1875, and was a member of Woodson Baptist Church.
Surviving besides Mrs. Holland are four other daughters, Mrs. Bertha Allen, Mrs. Verdie Rhoads, of Central City; Mrs. Alma Jernigan, Evansville, Indiana, Mrs. Mareen Mercer, Greenville; four sons, Shelby, Omer and Robert Noffsinger, all of Central City and Elmer Noffsinger of Bremen; 41 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Mitchell of Powderly and Bud Mitchell of Central City; a sister, Mrs. Dee Board.
Services were held at 3 p.m. (CST) Sunday at the Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, with burial in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Ulysses Noffsinger, 71, Dies Friday
Ulysses S. Noffsinger, 71, died Friday at 7 a.m. at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Drexel Hankins officiated, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Bruce and the Rev. W.D. Oakley, pastor of the church. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville with Masonic rites.
He was a member of Pond River Masonic Lodge 244 and a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He had been employed by the W.G. Duncan Coal Co. as farm manager for 35 years.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. B.F. Vincent of Bremen Route 1, Mrs. T.M. Vincent and Mrs. J.W. Vincent, both of Central City; three brothers, W.C. Noffsinger of Bremen Route 1, W.O. Noffsinger and S.O. Noffsinger, both of Greenville Route 1. He was living in the Yeargin's Chapel vicinity.

Central City - Mendle Nofsinger, 61, of Central City, died Sunday, November 6, 1994 at 11:50 p.m. at his residence.
Mr. Nofsinger was born in Muhlenberg County on October 21, 1933. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Central City. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Haack of Spring Lake, Michigan; a half-sister, Bernice McCandless of Greenville; and a half-brother, Oscar Nofsinger or Arizona.
Graveside services were held Friday, November 11 at Fairmount Cemetery with Dr. Carson Bevil officiating. Burial followed the ceremony.

She was born July 22, 1898 in Muhlenberg County. She was the widow of Shelby Nofsinger.
Survivors include two sons, Wallace and Mendel Nofsinger of Central City and Mrs. Carolyn Haack of Spring Lake, Mich.; two stepsons, O.H. Nofsinger of Phoenix, Ariz. and Halbert Nodell Noffsinger of Central City; step-daughter, Mrs. Victor McCandless of Greenville; nine grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

Shelby B. Nofsinger, 81, of Central City, died Saturday, Nov. 24 [sic] at 12:53 a.m. at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville after a short illness.
Born June 16, 1891 in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired carpenter and member of the Central City First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie B. Nofsinger of Central City; four sons, O.H. Nofsinger of Phoenix, Ariz., Halbert Nodell, Wallace D., and Mindel L. He was born in Muhlenberg County July 20, 1929, and was a member of the Martwick Baptist Church. He was a retired electrician and was a veteran of the Korean War.
