Charles E. Eades, after an illness of four months from a complication of ailments that baffled and resisted all treatment, died at his home at 5 o'clock last Friday evening, the immediate cause of death being uremic poisoning, which developed in the latest stages of the illness.

The deceased had been in various mercantile enterprises here for 30 years and his was the longest business life in town. A citizen and resident of the county, he was known and respected throughout its bounds. His energies, time and talents were always engaged in every movement that was calculated to inspire and ennoble; his life worthy of the highest emulation.

He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a prominent character in all its movements, being clerk of the Daviess County Association and moderator of the Muhlenberg County Association, in both positions showing judgment, efficiency and strength.

Thoughtful, quiet, retiring, but coupled therewith were zeal, activity and determination and on all questions his position was made known and his position was right. His private, business and official life all on one true basis, he won and held his friends.

Rev. W.J. Mahoney, pastor, conducted the funeral service at the Baptist Church at 10 o'clock Monday morning, the services being impressive and consoling. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery. His wife, two daughters: Miss Miriam Eades and Miss Lillian Eades, and one son: Mr. Howard Eades, are the surviving members of his family, and there is a wide connection of relatives.

Eades, John Penrod

Central City - John Penrod Eades, 42, of Carmel, Ind., died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at his home. He was born Nov. 30, 1965, in Muhlenberg County. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City, a graduate of University of Kentucky Dental School and practiced dentistry in Central City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Peggy Eades.

Survivors include a daughter, Piper Eades of Central City; two brothers, Mark (Robin) Eades and Tom (Tracy) Eades, all of Central City; a sister, Mary Beth (Jim) Gibson of Cleveland, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Jim Gibson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bob Lowery. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Muhlenberg County Humane Society, 615 Muhlenberg Drive, Greenville, KY 42345, or a favorite charity. Funeral Services Held For Former Greenville Man
A funeral service for Hugh Eaves, 68 years old, who died at his home in Memphis at noon last Thursday, was held at the graveside in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Roy H. Short, pastor of the Greenville Methodist church.

Eaves, Mrs. Ida Clements

Mrs. Ida Clements Eaves, 88, of 5357 Newcut Road, died Saturday at Georgetown Manor Nursing Home.

She was a native of South Carrollton, a retired bookkeeper for the Pacific Coal Co. near Central City, and a member of Powderly (Ky.) United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas M. Clements of Baton Rouge, La.; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery there.

Visitation at the funeral home will be after 10 a.m. Monday.

Eaves, Irene

Miss Irene Eaves died at her home near Sacramento last Sunday at 6 p.m. She was known and generally beloved here, where she often visited relatives and friends. The interment was in the family graveyard, burial being on Tuesday afternoon.

Eaves, Thomas J.

Tom Eaves Killed Monday At Lakeside Coal Mine
Tom Eaves, 54, of Powderly, was killed at 5:30 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a mine car at the Lakeside mine of the Pacific Coal Company. Funeral services were conducted at the Powderly Methodist church, at 4 p.m. Thursday, by Rev. Finley Hardison, Rev. Rufus Graham and Rev. Mendel Clark. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Central City.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Eaves; three brothers, Charlie Eaves, Louisville; Ben Eaves, Central City, and John Eaves, Powderly; two sisters, Mrs. Jesse Watkins and Mrs. Arthur Brothers, both residing on the Greenville-Depoy road.

Elkins, Mrs. Casandra

Mrs. Casandra Elkins, 82 years old, died at her home on Brank street here [Greenville] at 11:30 o'clock Thursday morning of injuries she sustained when she fell at her home on December 27.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Roy H. Short, pastor of the Methodist church, will be held at the home at 10 o'clock this morning, and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery here. Surviving Mrs. Elkins are two sons, E.E. Elkins, and Ross Elkins, both of Greenville.

Mr. Ellis's Brother, 77, Dies in Rumsey
Rumsey - James French Ellis, 77, retired blacksmith, died at his home here at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

A native of McLean County, he was a member of the Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sara Hallie Ellis; five daughters, Mrs. Wayne Hays, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Lester Cobb, Mrs. Glover Settle, Mrs. Elwood Cessna, and Mrs. Chester Arnold, all of Rumsey; two sons, Thurman Ellis and Wayman Ellis, both of Rumsey; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Reid Rust, Sacramento [KY]; one brother, John Ellis, Central City.

W.H. Elschide, 77, Is Buried Sunday
Powderly - The Rev. William H. Elschide, 77, died at 10 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at his home in Powderly. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Bob Spears officiating with burial in the Brownsville Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hallie Elschide; three sons, Charles of Lake Village, Ind., Herbert of Chicago, William of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Eunice Quarry of Evansville, Mrs. Bunie Hayes of Chandler, Ind., Mrs. Nancy Deuresett of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Mrs. Ordel Cephus of Williamsport, Ind.; one step-daughter and three step-sons.

Murk V. Epley, 88, To Be Buried Friday
Murk V. Epley, 88, a retired miner and resident of Beech Creek, died Tuesday, May 27, at 3:40 p.m. in Muhlenberg Community Hospital following an illness of several months.

He was born Sept. 16, 1880 in Logan County and was a member of Leigh's Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Larry Epley of Beech Creek, Maylon Epley of Louisville, Raymond Epley of Palmyra, Ind. and L.A. Epley of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Beulah Hall, Mrs. Willie Robinson and Mrs. Bessie White, all of Louisville; 44 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Leigh's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. William Mallory officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. J.T. Epley, 64, Dies Sept. 18 In Union Ridge
Mrs. Sarah Viola Epley, 64, wife of J.T. Epley, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Stinson, in Union Ridge Wednesday, Sept. 18 after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 20, at 2:00 P.M., at Leigh Chapel with Rev. William Mallory, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Jackson Cemetery. Parker and Washburne Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, J.T. Epley; three sons, Broadus, of Loda, Ill., Watson, of Toledo and Elmer, of Elgin Field, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Oscar Stinson, of Union Ridge, Mrs. Flora Blaker, of Toledo, and Mrs. Nora Jones, of Dunmor.

Corine Evitts, 6, Dies Sept. 24
Corine Evitts, 6, foster daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Moore, of Central City, died Tuesday, Sept. 24 after being sick for only a few hours. Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at the Tucker Funeral Home with Rev. Caravans, of Louisville, officiating. Burial was in the Fairmount Cemetery.

Born July 13, 1940, she had lived in Central City all her life. She is survived by her foster parents and several half-brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers were Marshall Moore, Ransom Moore, James Embry and Wilson Moore.

Eli Evitts, 82, is Buried Sunday
Eli Evitts, 82, of Dawson Springs Route 1, a retired coal miner, died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, July 9 in Hopkins County Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lena Evitts, Dawson Springs Route 1; four sons, Jack and Eli Evitts Jr., of Nebo Route 1, Roger Dale Evitts of Dawson Springs Route 4 and Lendell Evitts of Chicago; five daughters, Mrs. Maudine Steele of Haywood, Calif., Mrs. Nellie Perkins of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Gladys Noffsinger and Mrs. Thelma Moore of Central City and Mrs. Eloise Baucum of Dawson Springs; stepson, Rufus Earl Frisby of Kansas City, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Gracie Trotter of Dawson Springs and Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Foe of Dawson Springs Route 1; 35 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lucian Evitts of Powderly and Jack Evitts of Ogden, Utah; sister, Mrs. Otha Cornette of Ogden.

He was born March 10, 1888 in Muhlenberg.

Services were Sunday at 2 p.m. in Dawson Springs with burial in Dunn's Cemetery.

Henry Evitts, 79, Dies Early Today
Greenville - Henry Evitts, 79, retired miner and farmer, died in Muhlenberg Community Hospital at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29 following a long illness. He was a member of Greenville Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ora Evitts; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Brooks of Greenville and Mrs. Pauline Mryes of Louisville; sister, Mrs. Otha Cornette of Salt Lake City, Utah; three brothers, Lucian Evitts of Powderly, Eli Evitts of Dawson Springs and Jack Evitts of Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Lucian A. Evitts, 88, Dies May 20
Powderly - Lucian A. Evitts, 88, died Sunday, May 20, at 9:25 a.m. at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness.

He was born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 27, 1884 and lived in Powderly. He was a retired coal miner.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Evitts of Powderly; daughter, Mrs. G.O. (Soddy) Vincent of Central City; two sons, Ray of Louisville and Howard of Carrollton, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Otha Cornette, and brother, Jack Evitts, both of Ogden, Utah.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Orval Raymer, assisted by the Rev. O.R. Davis, officiating. Burial was in Muhlenberg Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Ulis W. Evitts, 71, Luzerne, Dies Tuesday
Luzerne - Ulis W. (Bud) Evitts, 71, died at his home in Luzerne, Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 10:30 p.m. The funeral is being held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Luzerne Church, the Rev. Willie Blake officiating, with burial in Unity Cemetery near Graham.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Adah Evitts; three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Steele of Powderly, Mrs. Rose Bethel of Luzerne and Mrs. Lawrence Wilkins of Gary, Ind.; three sons, Aaron, Elgin and Jewell, all of Cleveland, Ohio; 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Fulkerson of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Otho Cornette of Ogden, Utah; four brothers, Lucien of Powderly, Eli of Dawson Springs, Henry of Greenville and Jack of Ogden, Utah.

Evitts, William Albert

William A. Evitts, 75, Dies Aug. 18
Hendersonville, Tenn.-Services for William Albert Evitts, 75, of Hendersonville were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 in Hendersonville. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Evitts died Monday, Aug. 18 in Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Greenville, Ky., he was a son of the late Jay and Belle Lewis Evitts. He attended Greenville public schools. Mr. Evitts founded Central Amusement Co. in 1933. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, the Order of the Elks and the Friendly Men's Bible Class.

He was married to the former Miss Marjorie Johnson, who survives. Also surviving are two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ewing, Edna Mae

Drakesboro - Edna Mae Ewing, 78, of Drakesboro, died Thursday, May 21, 1998 at her residence.

Ms. Ewing was born in Muhlenberg County on July 17, 1919. She was a member of Drakesboro Baptist Church. Survivors include: one brother, Charles E. Brooks of Louisville; one half-brother, Larry Brooks of Drakesboro; five half-sisters, Betty Ford of Shelby, IN, June Harrison of Belton, Mary Dill Richmond and Ovada Richmond, both of Lewisburg, and Charlotte Rousch of Demotte, IN; and three nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at Tucker's Funeral Home with Rev. David Black officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
