Pioneer Samuel Weir was born in South Carolina in 1769 and died near Paradise in 1830. His farm was one of the best-managed places in the county. It was at his home that his mother, Mrs. Susan Weir, died. On the marble slab marking her grave are no dates; the well-carved inscription reads simply, “Susan Weir, the Best of Mothers.” Samuel Weir married Elizabeth Vanlandingham, sister of pioneer Oliver C. Vanlandingham. They were the parents of seven children: Elizabeth, who was married to Isaac Roll; Susan, to T.J. Rice; Nancy, to Elijah Smith; Margaret, to O.C. Vanlandingham Jr.; Esther, to Josiah Maddox, and Samuel M., to Elizabeth B. Vanlandingham. Samuel M. Weir was born in 1826 and died near Paradise in 1908.

Pond Creek is the divider between Muhlenberg County and Hopkins and Christian counties. Log Creek is a tributary of Pond Creek located in the northwest part of Muhlenberg County near Millport.
The names of William Weir's children, with the exception of David, come from his will and his son James' will.
Children:
David Weir, born 1770, Fishing Creek, Chester Co., SC; died from wounds received in the battle at Eutaw Springs (8 September 1781). The story was told by Miller Weir that when David's father took a temporary leave from the war to return home to make shoes for his children, young David took his place and was wounded at Eutaw Springs and/or imprisoned at Charlotte. Although his mother Susannah obtained his release and brought him home, he died from his wounds. (See Chester Co. Gen. Bul. June 1981.) Benjamin Gregory fought for the United States in the Revolution serving with Col. Thomas Brandon's regiment in 1781. His estate was confiscated by the State for against the United States. He was captured as Ninety-Six District and imprisoned at Charleston, SC. (American General Gazette, 19 November 1779) His citizenship was reinstated in the South Carolina Private Acts of 1784 (List #3 of persons who are taken off the Confiscation List: Benjamin Gregory)
