Loney, James & Ann

James Loney
Born: 1780 in Ireland
Died: After 1850, probably in Muhlenberg

Ann
Born: 1794 in Virginia
Died: After 1870, probably in Muhlenberg

Known Children of James & Ann Loney:

Notes: Without more research, this family group sheet is mostly supposition. Hugh M. Loney is living with James & Ann Loney in the 1850 Census. Hugh M. Loney had a son with the middle name Grant, so did John Loney, so I've inferred that they are brothers. Both John Loney and the younger James Loney married Browns (probably sisters?) in 1821 in Ohio County, so on those facts, I've put these children with those parents.

Sarah Loney is also living with James & Ann Loney in the 1850 Census. She is 18, and marries Jesse Young in Muhlenberg on 02 May 1852.

Long, Samuel Culbertson & Joanna Culbertson

Samuel Culbertson Long
Born: about 1771 Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania
Married: about 1792
Father: William Long
Mother: Agnes Culbertson

Spouse: Joanna Culbertson

Samuel Culbertson Long was the son of William Long of Cumberland Co., PA and his wife, Agnes Culbertson, a daughter of Samuel Culbertson of Culbertson Row, Franklin Co., PA. Agnes was also a first cousin to Capt. John Culbertson who settled in Muhlenberg Co., KY, father-in-law to Robert Cessna.

It is not known exactly when this couple and their children arrived in Muhlenberg but records indicate that this family was living in the Lexington, KY area prior to Muhlenberg. Tax records in Muhlenberg show a “Culbertson Long” taking 200 acres along the Green River in 1799 and then Samuel Long, in 1800, again with 200 acres on the Green River. This 2nd 200 acres was orginally recorded for Robert Cessna. On March 23, 1801, Samuel Culbertson Long, John Culbertson, his son Joseph Culbertson and son-in-law Robert Cessna, all claimed a right to 200 acres on the Green River, per court order books from Muhlenberg.

Samuel Long was born about 1771 in Cumberland Co., PA and married Joanna Culbertson about 1792 but whereabouts unknown. If the family was living in the Lexington area, then perhaps this was where Capt. John Culbertson was living prior to moving into Ohio, Logan and Muhlenberg Counties as is alledged.

Children of Samuel C. Long & Joanna Culbertson:

The order of the children is based on how they were listed in settlement papers of Samuel C. Long's estate (Muhlenberg Will Book 14 page 12). Also, the 1820 Muhlenberg Census listed 6 males under 25 and 4 females under 16 so there were more children than listed in this family.

The information was compiled in 1979 by Mildred Russell of Russellville, KY. Her sources were Mrs. Wells Vicks records, Muhlenberg County Court records, and DAR Patriot Records for William Long.
