The names are listed in the same sequence as they appear in the original records, with information in this order:
- Name of child
- Child's gender (male or female)
- Child's race (white, black, colored, mulatto)
- Child's birth date
- Name of father and his birthplace (if listed)
- Name of mother (in some records only the surname) and her birthplace (if listed)
Muhlenberg County is listed as the place of residence for all parents listed.
Question marks indicate places where there is a blank in the record or where I was uncertain when interpreting the handwriting. Telling the difference between capitals M and W, L and S, and J and I was especially challenging, so please consider alternate interpretations as you search for surnames that start with those letters.
Occasionally a child with a traditionally male name is listed as female, or a child with a traditional female name is listed as male. In a few cases, the surname of the father does not match the surname of the child. I copied from the record rather than make assumptions about corrections.
